Mission, Vision, and Values

Mission

Action Now’s mission is to build power in low-income Black communities so that individuals and families can work together to fight for justice for ourselves, our community, our state, and our nation. We fulfill our mission by prioritizing grassroots and people of color leadership, mobilizing our community through direct action and civic engagement, and driving dynamic public policy campaigns that hold our elected officials accountable to the people they were elected to represent.

Values

Quality Public Education

We value community and neighborhood public schools that are thriving community centers. We believe that every child deserves a quality education in a safe, supportive learning environment that welcomes authentic parental engagement and highly effective teachers who love our children and our community.

Living Wage Jobs

We value fair pay for hard work, and we believe that everyone deserves a quality, living-wage job that allows them not only to provide for themselves and their families, but also to build their community’s economy.

Affordable Housing

We value safe communities. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live in safe, affordable housing, and that affordable housing not only provides families with a place to love, but that it also builds communities into more stable and vibrant places to live.

Civic Engagement

We value civic engagement, and believe that the people who are most affected by the issues should engage with their elected officials and hold them accountable at the decision-making table.

Direct Action and Corporate Accountability

We value organizing that empowers community members to take direct action to address community issues that they care about. We believe that large numbers of people united around a common concern is a vehicle of power that is able to provide a formidable counterweight to corporate control over the political process.
